He has started his primary education
at Olagankanda Kanishta Vidyalaya and completed his
Secondary Education at Kegalu Maha Vidyalya.He entered
University of Kelaniya in 1982 and Graduated in 1986
with a Economics Special Degree.
Entered the SLEAS in 1988 from a competitive All Island
Examination and had one year of training at the National
Institute of Education.His First appointment as a SLEAS
officer was as the Vice Principal of Pinnawala Central
in 1989 and later acted as the Principal.
From 1991 to 1997 he was an Assitant
Director of the Education Ministry and he was working
as a trainer for type 2/3 Principals in the North Central
and Central Provinces and joined the Department of Examinations
as the Deputy Commissioner of Examinations. He has a
Post Graduate Diploma in Education from University of
Colombo and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from
the University of Jayawardenapura PIM..He has a Masters
in Education (Funding) from the University of Colombo.He
has a vast experience in Education Adminstration and
Education related areas and have the distinction in
serving in many Education related Institutions before
taking responsibility at Royal College.
Mr. Upashantha has had a lot
of foreign exposure.
In the Institute of Education-University of London he
underwent an advance training in Management Responsibility.
At the University of Virginia – Curry School of
Education he has under gone training in General Education
Projects and Education Management.
He has followed a Programme on Education Management
at the Institute of Baki-Ministry of Education, Malaysia.
A programme has being followed on Information Management
Technology at the Asian Institute of Technology.
He has followed a course on Education Adminstration at
the University of Victoria.
Mrs. SN Aamarasekera had her secondary
education at Princess of Wales, Moratuwa and entered
the Vidyodaya University of Gangodawila . She offered
Biology, Mathematics and Chemistry as an undergraduate
and was awarded the Degree of Bachelor of Science (Honors).
She started her career in year 1971 as an assistant
teacher and later obtained the Post Graduate Diploma
in Education. She was successful in entering class III
of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service. After
a long period of great service at Visakha Vidyalaya,
Colombo as the sectional head of the advanced level
science section. She joined Royal College, Colombo in
1999.
Currently,
she serves the college as the Deputy Principal of the
middle school from grade 6 - 9.
Mrs.Attygalle has many educational accolades such among
which she has an M.A. in Lingustics in the English
Language.She recieved her basic education in the United
States of America where she was awarded the honour of
being the 'Valedictorian' for her accedemic
excellence.Armed with these, Mrs.Attygalle has been a
key moving force in creating and increasing the English
proficiency levels among the many students ranging from
grade one to grade thirteen.Mrs.Attygalle is the teacher
in Charge of the Debater's Council,i earn and Drama
Society, all of which boasts of a high degree of
success,consistency and innovation.
It must be said that as the Deputy Principal of the
Primary, Mrs. Attygalle has rendered an immense service
in upgrading the all round standerds of the students
ranging from the ages of six to eleven.From reading
camps, concerts,musical bands to full length musical
productions and project based learning programs are just
a glimpse of things to come.
Mrs.
Attygalle was an elected member to the executive
committee of the Sri Lanka English Language Teachers
Association(SLELTA) until 2004 when she relinquished her
post n favour of immersing herself in more of the
teaching aspect as well the operations of her duties at
Royal College.Mrs. Attygalle has been instrumental in
raising the standerds of teachers,nation wide.
Partcularly by carring out training sessions and
workshops in the specifics of the English Language and
Litratere in places like Monaragale and Badulla.
Conducting and presenting innovative ideas and projects
to international forums, is nothing new to Mrs.Attygalle,
as she demonstrated at the recently held conference on
English in the Multilingual Envirment which took place
on the 8th, 9th, and 19th of October 2004, which was
attended by the numerous Educational diginitaries in the
region.
Mr. L.L.B. Tennakoon joined the staff
of Royal College in 2005 as the Deputy
Principal of Upper Middle School. He was
appointed as a Grade 11 officer of the Sri
Lanka Principals Service in 1989 and was
promoted to Grade 1 of the SLS in 1994. He
was born on 26 July 1951. He entered the
Mahragama specialised Teacher Training
College in 1974 and followed a special
course in teaching Mathematics in 1974/75.
His first appointment as a teacher was on
the 3 January 1972. He had been teaching at
N/ Karagahaulpotha M.V, B/Tissapura M.V,B/Attampitiya
M.V, B/Junior Secondary School, B/
Bandarawela Central College. He worked as
instructor for Mathematics at the Regional
Teacher Training Centre, Badulla from
1985-1988.He had been teaching at C/Thurstan
College for a period of 18 years as a
teacher, Sectional Head and the Deputy
Principal. He worked as a teacher of
Mathematics in the Republic of Seychelles
for 5 years.
Mr. Marimuttu Kanapathipillai was
born on the 19th of April 1953, in
the Island of Delft. He had his
education at Subramaniya Vidyalaya,
Ramanathapuram West G.T.M.S and
Delft M.V. From there he was
selected to the University of
Colombo.
In 1980 he obtained an Honours
Degree in Economics and in 1984, he
obtained his first appointment at
Royal College. Since then he has
functioned the various posts in this
College.
In 1990 he completed the Post
Graduate Diploma in Education Course
at the University of Colombo, and on
01.06.1991 he was selected by an
exam as a Grade 1 Principal.
In 1992 he participated in the
Secondary Educators programme held
in Tokyo in Japan.
In
1998 he passed the Post Graduate
Diploma in Education Management Exam
held by the N.I.E. In 2003 he
succeeded in the Master of Arts
(Political Science) Exam held by the
University of Peradeniya.
With all these educational and
professional qualification he was
appointed in 1987 as the master in
charge of the Tamil Dramatic
Society.In 1990 he was appointed as
the Assistant Sectional Head of the
Tamil Section and in 1992 as the
Sectional Head of the Tamil Section.
In 1998 as the Co-ordinator of all
Tamil Medium Clubs and societies and
2004 as the Deputy Principal.
He is also a member of the School
Development Society.
Mr.
Hennayake Mudiyanselage Dayaratne - the Assistant
Principal in charge of the Academic Affairs (Grade
6 - 13) and has a teaching career of 33 years.
He joined the Staff of Royal College on 20.06.1981
and serving the School for last 21 years.. He
is one of the most senior members on the Staff.
Mr. H.M. Dayaratne had has secondary education
at the Central College, Minuwangoda and after
entering the teaching career in 1969. He obtained
his training certificate in Mathematics from the
Teacher Training College, Maharagama.
He pursued his further studies
and obtained his B.Sc. degree offering Pure Mathematics,
Applied Mathematics and Statistics from the University
of Sri Jayawardenepura and his Diploma in Education
from the Open University, Sri Lanka. Mr. Dayaratne
functions as the grade head of the Science Section,
Subject Co-ordinator of Pure Mathematics G.C.E.
(A/L) and a Pure Mathematics teacher in the G.C.E.
(A/L) classes.
He is actively involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular
activities of the school. He was the Assistant
Master in charge of the United Nations Club from
1981 to 1986. At present he plans to implement
a formal programme for the development of the
academic affairs of Grade 6 - 13.
Mr. Dayaratne's career was enhanced by the seminars
he followed. He attended a seminar of Pure Mathematics
at the Science Education Unit of the University
of Peradeniya. Mr. Dayaratne is an Assistant Principal
Mr. B.A. Gunawardena was
appointed to the Tutorial Staff of this College
in July 1984 to teach Science in G.C.E.(O/L)
classes.
In addition to this work in the classroom he has
been one of the Masters in Charge of under 13,15
and 17 Cricket during successive periods. In
2003 he has appointed Senior Master in charge of
the College United Nations Club which has
maintained a prestigious record of enthusiastic
participation and services rendered to the
school. Mr. Gunawardena has been instrumental in
organizing the student Talent Show for 6 years
and Teachers’ Guild Talent show of 6 years and
was of great assistance in the functioning the
objectives.
He joined the government
Teachers’ service in 1973 and served in remote
areas.
As an Old Boy of Rahula College, Matara, he was
an executive committee member of Rahula O.B.A.,
Colombo Branch. He was appointed as Justice of
the Peace All Island in the year 2000.
In view of his contribution to the life of this
College he was appointed Assistant Principal in
2006.
The present Hostel Warden of Royal College
Mr. K.M. Aruna De Silva is an experienced
English teacher who started his teaching
carrier 23 years ago working in the private
sector. Since then he has gathered a wide
range of experience from a very remote
isolated school to the prestigious Royal
College.
He is an old boy of Dickwella Central
College which has produced note worthy
citizens for the nation. While schooling,
his interests were singing, acting and
participating in extra-curricular
activities. Further, he was an outstanding
cadet in school.
During his service of 23 years, he worked in
the Maldives Island as a teacher for a
couple of years. Teaching in a tiny island
school while living with islanders was a
challenge as well as a thrilling experience.
After experience claim and quit island life,
he was transferred to busy male city.
He was introduced to Royal College by one of
his past veteran teacher Mr. W.A.
Wickramasena who composed the Sinhala
College Anthem. He joined the College on 22
May 2001 as an English teacher in the
Advance level classes. He is the master
in-charge of the Buddhist Brotherhood and
the assistant Master in-charge of Rowing. He
is one of the founders of the fund raising
Mega show SAGA and its name was given by
him.
For the first tine in the history of Royal
College Hostel, applications were called and
an interview was held to select Warden.
After the said procedure Mr. Aruna De Silva
was appointed as the new Warden and he
assumed duties on the 6th of January 2005.
His wife Mrs. K.M.S.A. Chithrani is the
matron. Mr. Aruna De Silva work so hard to
upgrade the facilities , infrastructure ,
standard of food and to make the hostel a
pleasant place for the hostellers who are
away from their homes.
Mr. M.T.A.Rauf had his primary education at G/Revatha M.V, Balapitiya and having passed the Grade 5 scholarship examination and then he attended G/Karandeniya Central College, one of the pioneer central colleges in the country. For his higher studies he attended Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda. In 1973, he was chosen to serve as an assistant teacher of Science and Mathematics in the Galle district. He is a BSc Honours Graduate from the University of Colombo offering Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics.
He was appointed as a graduate teacher in Advanced Level Mathematics in the Western province. From 1983 to 1986 he served as a Research Assistant in Mathematics at the Evaluation, Guidance and Research unit of the Ministry of Education. He read for Post Graduate Diploma in Education at the National Institute of Education in 1990 and Post Graduate Diploma in Educational and Psychological Assessment in Education from the University of Colombo in 1991.
He joined D.S.Senanayake College in 1987.Having appointed as Prefect of Games in 1991; he continued to serve till 2001.He was the pioneer Master in charge of Squash and Philately to D.S.S.C. From 1993 to 2001 he was the MIC for 1stXI Cricket in addition to the duties of POG. While serving at D.S.S.C. he joined the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association and held several posts namely Executive Committee member, Tournament committee member and Tournament Secretary (1995-1996); He held the post of Treasurer from 1997 to 2001 till he left Sri Lanka for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
At Sri Lankan International school in Riyadh. He was the M.I.C. of Prefects, M.I.C. of Discipline and the Prefect of Games. After a brief stinct he returned to the island to join Royal College as an Advanced Level Mathematics teacher in English medium.
While serving at the Sri Lanka school Cricket Association he toured to Hong Kong as the Manager of the Sri Lanka- under 17 cricket team and as the Schools Representative for the tours of under 17 Asia Cup in Pakistan in 2000 and the tour of Malaysia for the Under 19 Tri Nation tournament in 2007. He was the Liaison Officer for Pakistan and Bangladesh teams ranging from Under 19 Tours ,”A” Tours and National Teams. Finally He was elected as the General Secretary of SLSCA in the years of 2005and 2006.
He was appointed as a Senior Games Master of ROYAL COLLEGE in 2005.
Mr.Sudath Liyanagunawardena was the first
Royalist to achieve this position. Having
joined the Royal Primary in 1973 as a
student he had an illustrious career at
College up to the Advanced level which he
completed successfully.After leaving school
he joined the College of Education and
completed his Diploma in teaching
Mathematics.
Subsequently he served as a teacher in
remote areas until he joined his alma mater
in 1994.Throught his career he has proved
himself keen and dynamic through his
involvement in a wide spectrum of
co-curricular and extra curricular
activities.
As a teacher of Royal , he was responsible
for the performance of the cricket under 15,
the 2nd XI and 1st XI teams. He was the
Senior Master in charge of Hockey , the Aqua
Science Society, Social Services League and
the Asst.Master in charge of the Sinhala
Drama Society.
He has composed many songs for various
occasions of the school and they have been
very popular among all.He has made his mark
as a very reliable student counselor who
worked with a deep sense of responsibility
thus amply justifying the confidence reposed
in him.He has been serving in several
committees within the school and outside
making a significant contribution to bring
credit to the school .
In appreciation of his significant
contribution in all these areas and
considering his wide experience in the field
of sports and societies he was appointed as
a Senior Games Master in 2005 and has been
working in that capacity up to date.
Mr. S.Illeperuma residing at 91/4 4th lane,
Pannipitiya was born on 6th December 1952.
He is an old boy of Mahinda College, Galle.
He entered the University of Peradeniya and
obtained his BSC in 1975 in Physics,
Chemistry and Pure maths. He had obtained
professional qualifications in a Diploma in
Education in 1994 and Master of Education in
1999 from the University of Colombo.
His first appointment as a teacher was on
the 16th May 1975.He had been teaching at
Vijayaba M.V,Hungama for 3 years, Dharmasoka
College, Ambalangoda for 4 years, ,Mahanama
College, Colombo for 3- 12 years. He had
been a teacher in The Republic of Nigeria
for 5 years
He was appointed to
Royal College on 07.10.1999 and at present he is
a SLTS 1 teacher. Mr.S.Illeperuma functions as
Master in Charge of Prefects. He is mainly
responsible for training prefects. He is
untiring in his effort to ensure that the
prefects turn out to be truly responsible
individuals with strong leadership qualities.
Ms.Indrani Dissanayaka Hamangoda joined the
Royal College staff in 1997 and counts 24 years
of teaching service. Presently serving as the
Registrar of Royal College,she received her
basic education at Holy Family Convent,and
Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya in Kurunegala.She
holds a B.A.(Geography Special) Degree from the
University of Peradeniya and a Diploma in
Education from the University of Sri Lanka.Ms.
Hamangoda also counts three years as a lecturer
at Technical College, Kurunegala and is an
experienced teacher specializing in Social
Studies and Geography. She also served as the
Social Studies Coordinator for grades 6-11 from
2001-2003.
In addition to her
education accolades and teaching experience Ms.
Hamangoda is actively involved in co-curricular
activities both at school and national level.She
was a member of the New Educational Reforms
Committee of Royal College in 2000, and was
actively engaged in activities of the School
Development Society until 2004.
She chaired the
“Raja Sisu Sahana Padanama” during the period in
which the North East conflict was at its height.She
is presently the Mistress-in – charge of Royal
College Tennis Team. She also held the position
of Treasurer of the Sri Lanka Schools Tennis
Association in 2005 and was subsequently
appointed as its Vice President in 2006.
More
recently in 2004 Ms.Hamangoda participated in
the ‘Japan Foundation Secondary School
Educators’ Study held in Tokyo, Japan.
